(NEW) SASO Enforces EMC Standards for Electrical Products in 2024

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) is implementing comprehensive electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) technical regulations for most electrical and electronic products sold in the Kingdom effective May 17, 2024.

As per the new requirements, manufacturers and importers must submit a Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) along with EMC test reports from accredited laboratories when applying for Product Conformity Certificates (PCoCs) on the SABER platform.

The regulations cover a broad range of electrical products including pumps, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, IT equipment, lamps, battery chargers, power supplies, and many more categories listed under specific HS codes by SASO.

Key Highlights:

  • This applies to most electrical/electronic products except for a few exclusions
  • Requires SDoC and third-party EMC test reports for certification
  • Ensures products don’t cause excessive electromagnetic interference
  • Makes products resilient to ambient electromagnetic disturbances
  • All SASO-accredited certification bodies to verify compliance

Some products excluded are radio/telecom equipment, aviation products, amateur radio devices, and medical equipment which have separate compliance requirements.

Manufacturers and importers are advised to start reviewing the new standards, updating technical files, and conducting required tests through accredited labs to ensure their products are compliant by the implementation date.

As an SASO-accredited certifying body, Verger Group can assist you with technical guidance, documentation review, and testing through our network of qualified laboratories to smoothly transition to these updated EMC regulations.
